Fiber Chamber 1, 2022
wool, silk, projected video
~ 13 ft x 20 ft x 16ft
Through media installation, Iām addressing the precarious state of being out-of-body in order to consider how we manage physical and mental trauma. In Fiber Chamber 1, a large handmade felt textile formed from undyed wool and silk drapes from the wall into the gallery, creating a small chamber from which to experience the work. Viewers are encouraged to enter, sit, and allow their minds to drift as the lush video projection saturates the walls, floor, and fibers, creating a surreal intersection of surfaces and light to expand a space of meditative transport. The video content is composed from footage of the seductive curves of a mylar weaving draped on a green grape arbor wet with dew and blanketed with sunlight. The visual oscillates between tangible representation and abstraction in an effort to reassure someone as they are gently drawn to release their physicality. Though the exterior surfaces are beguiling to regard, the important space is the underside. At a time of perpetual shared trauma, I see this work as creating a space of healing amidst a beguiling bliss.
